My European Championships campaign started on day three of the swimming meet. It was the 100 backstoke and I was sceeded outside the top 30 swimmers, with the other 3 brits ahead of me, so I only really had my eyes on a PB.
However, I swam a big PB by 0.7 to get myself into the semi, beating two of the other Brits (2 per nation rule). In the semi-final, I swam another PB and managed to finish the individual 100 backstroke as top Brit and 11th in Europe.
On Day five it was my prefered event the 200 backstroke. In the heats, I swam another PB by 0.1 seconds and won my heat to sceed myself 4th into the semi finals. In the semi, I went a bit slower and just missed out on a place in the final, but was happy to finish 10th and again as top Britgain.
On the last day of the swimming meet I was supposed to do the 400IM, however because of my performance earlier in the week on the 100 backstroke I was selected to do the backstroke leg of the 4x100 medley in the heats. I went 0.2 seconds slower than the heats on day 3 so I was happy with my performance. I was then swapped out for the final and the team secured the gold medal.
Overall it was a brilliant experience of a senior team environment and a well organised competition by Glasgow.
