Callum started playing Basketball with Taunton Tigers last September after he was encouraged to try out for the team after representing Huish Academy at an Inter Schools Tournament at Millfield.
He joined the Under 14’s team, trained twice a week and played in a league representing Tigers. He was selected to represent Somerset and play with the Under 16’s at an Inter-Counties tournament in Paignton – which they won - the first time Somerset had won this tournament. He was awarded most improved player at Tiger’s end of season presentation.
He was asked to join the South West team’s Regional Development Programme the following March after being scouted at one of the Tigers games in Glouster. The Regional Development Program is a player development programme, where regional squads are put together. It serves as a development process for England's 10 regions Under 15’s tournament. The regional squads are made up of the best of the club players from the region and players with potential to represent their country at national junior level and beyond.
As part of the South West team, in June he was selected to play in an international tournament in Poland with 36 teams from 8 nations where the team achieved runners up –the best a South West team had achieved at this tournament.
In September this year, he was 1 of 10 players selected to represent the South West and play in the National Under 15’s regional tournament in London, the ultimate aim of the Regional Development Programme – a major achievement for someone who has only been playing a year. These players are recognised as being amongst the best 100 players in the country.
He trains 3 times a week, twice a week with Tigers in which he represents both the under 15’s and under 16’s teams in both the regional and national league and once a week with Taunton Tournedos basketball club, which he has also recently joined.
